Plus Restaurant in the Plaza de Armas of Cusco
You’ll find Plus Restaurant on the second floor of Pirwa Posada del Corregidor, overlooking the Plaza de Armas of Cusco. It boasts its own balcony from where diners can admire the main square’s picturesque cathedrals and central fountain. This is a popular spot for travelers during events such as this month’s Corpus Christi and Inti Raymi, as watching from the balcony gets you a great view without the struggle for space among the crowds.
Copper pots adorn the wall around the cozy fireplace, and a small bar offers up wine and some of Peru’s most iconic cocktails, such as chilcanos de pisco and the omnipresent but refreshing pisco sour.
For the last eight years, the restaurant has been serving specialties from Cusco and the Andean region, including popular fusion dishes which combine traditional international dishes with unique local ingredients. If you’re interested in sampling a traditional Andean dish, the obvious choice is Cuy al Horno, roast guinea pig served with baked potatoes, stuffed hot pepper, and vegetables. Many travelers intrigued by novelty and aesthetics opt to try guinea pig while in Peru.
Plus Restaurant offers more modern dishes as well, however. For a taste of Andean fusion, try the Peppered Alpaca Carpacio (served with capers, arugula and croutons) or the Tiradito de Trucha, wherein thin sashimi-like slices of Andean river trout are briefly marinated like ceviche and then served up in a hot yellow chili sauce.
