A Year of Change for Pirwa Colonial Hostel
Pirwa Colonial underwent a series of renovations and changes in the last year, and we think that the hostel is much improved for it! The biggest change at Pirwa Colonial this last year is that the bar has been moved to the first floor of the hostel. This doubled the size of the TV/game lounge, which now has that entire space upstairs to itself. The lounge is equipped with a 60-inch flat screen TV, musical instruments, bean bags, picnic tables and upholstered chairs for seating, darts, table games, and a billiards table. The stand offering pizzas, burgers, juices and other fast food offerings is still located upstairs. There is a balcony where you can sit with a view of Plaza San Francisco and San Francisco church as well.
Meanwhile, the new bar downstairs has three rooms, two of which allow smoking, while one room is reserved for non-smokers. As before, there are beers, cocktails and shots on offer. The bar is cozy, but it feeds into the first interior patio, which gives it additional space for events. We think the changes to the bar are a big improvement, as it’s much more conducive for socializing now. The only room that was nearby, a 4-bed shared dorm, has now been closed to avoid noise issues.
The second interior patio hasn’t changed; it still has its colorful hammocks and continues to be where the guest kitchen is located. The only addition is a row of well-maintained mountain bikes that are available for rent and perfect for excursions to the Sacred Valley of the Incas. The only real change that you should be aware of is that the kitchen now closes in the evening, as there isn’t cleaning staff on hand at this time to maintain it. (We received some complaints about cleanliness in the kitchen, and despite the fact that we hope guests clean up after their own culinary endeavors, it does get messy quickly if staff isn’t on-hand to help. This is what inspired the change.
