Quadbikes in the Sacred Valley of the Incas
For a fun day trip from the town of Urubamba in the Sacred Valley of the Incas, consider ATVs, All Terrain Vehicles. Also known as quad bikes, they’re perfect for off-roading excitement.
In a trip that will last about 4 ½ hours, you’ll enjoy speeding along picturesque trails, climbing hills, steeply dropping, splashing through streams, and having a generally thrilling time. The valley landscape is marked by the small fields of local subsistence-farming families and surrounded with snow-capped Andean peaks.
Although one could simply rent an ATV, a guided excursion can be more fruitful for travelers who wish to make the most of their time. And when it comes to guided tours, although different routes are available, it’s no secret that we prefer one that takes you to the Moray terraces and the Maras salt pans.
The concentric circular terraces of Moray once served as an agricultural laboratory for the Incas. During the dry season, the terraces are themselves dry. It’s wonderful to visit during or shortly after the rainy season, when everything is at its greenest. During this time, there are even sample crops that demonstrate more about the types of plants which were grown there. Then, near the tiny and picturesque town of Maras, you’ll see the shining terraces of salt at the Maras Salt Pans. The salt is produced by water evaporating in hundreds of stone pools carved along a mountainside.
For a trip like this, you’ll need the requisite sun protection that a hat and sunblock can give you, plus a bottle of water bottle.
