Checking in at Pirwa Maldonado, our hostel in Puerto Maldonado in the Peruvian AmazonInterested in spending more time in Puerto Maldonado, one of the most important cities in the Peruvian Amazon? Well, this might be your chance. Pirwa Maldonado is looking for help from English-speaking travelers during the afternoon or night shifts. In exchange for five hours of work, you will also receive breakfast and lunch. You’ll have free days for excursions and will be able to control your travel budget.

Pirwa Maldonado is centrally located and mainly composed of private rooms. It’s more of a family hostel than some other hostels in our chain, as it doesn’t contain a bar. There’s cable, wi-fy, and in-room fans.

The continental breakfast includes fresh local options such as papaya juice and fruit salad with yogurt, and if you’re interested in any assistance during your free days you can arrange tours of the city and trips into the surrounding jungle at reception. We can also help clue you in with recommendations on where to find the best juanes or the liveliest bars. In return, we could use your help communicating with our English-speaking guests on shifts where the regular is lacking in that area. You would need some basic Spanish in order to communicate with the staff, and we’re also hoping to find volunteers interested in staying at least a month.
