Stop by Chachapoya Fest in Peru’s Amazonas Region this August
The fourth annual Chachapoyafest is set to offer a look into the culture of the Peruvian Amazonas region and the way in which it interacts with the rest of the world through art. Locals and international visitors alike join together for workshops, theater, film, concerts, roundtables, exhibitions, and the creation of communal art from multimedia extravaganzas to large-scale murals. It’s billed as a meeting between the artists and the community.
The event is free and festive, with collaborators arriving from Chile, Argentina, Spain, and Japan. This year, it will take place from August 3rd through 11th, with scheduled events running from 9am to 9pm. Workshops range from ocarina making and mask making to stop-motion filmmaking and origami (origami which will be used for the creation of a large alter). The concerts and poetry gatherings are non-stop, and throughout the day you can check in with different artists as their murals and installation pieces progress.
You can check the Chachapoyafest website for detailed program information. Or, if you’re wondering what to see in Chachapoyas, make sure to check some earlier posts:
