Just a Few Weeks till Lima’s Mistura Food Fair

005Tens of thousands of visitors are expected to attend Lima’s Mistura Food Fair, will take place next month from Sept 5th through 14th at the Costa Verde of Magdalena del Mar. This year’s theme is Biodiversity & Nutrition. As always, there will be dancing, talks and forums, and demonstrations. As an improvement over prior events, there will be more vegetarian options this year (they have been scarce in Peruvian cuisine and in prior Mistura fairs), such as quinoa burgers.

The fair will be organized into different culinary ‘worlds’ including ceviches, sandwiches, northern cuisine, southern cuisine, creole cuisine, Amazonian and Andean foods, grilled meats and anticuchos, sweets, drinks, bread, and bars. For the first time, the bars will include some ayahuasca offerings. A Chifa & Nikkéi world will offer the popular Peruvian-Chinese and Peruvian-Japanese fusion dishes, a cart world will offer the best of the country’s street food, and there will be a beer pavilion for quenching your thirst.

Lastly, if you’d like to buy some unique products, there will be a bazaar as well as the Gran Mercado, which will offer produce from Peru’s desert coast, Andes, and the Amazon. The Gran Mercado’s varied offerings are the heart of the fair. As a new addition, this year the market will also have its own restaurant demonstrating the culinary application of the products on offer.

Thus far, various restaurants have 049announced that they will be offering some innovative additions alongside the traditional dishes of Peru. Among these, there will be:

  • Chaufarroncito from San Joy Lao: a mix of chaufa (Peruvian-Chinese fried rice) and chicharrón (fried pork)
  • Alpaca Anticuchos from Antojitos Toccto: anticuchos are traditionally marinated beef heart kabobs, but these will be made with alpaca
  • Huancaína Rolls: rolls stuffed with a huancaína sauce of yellow chili pepper and cheese, which is normally served over potatoes.
  • Chicharrón de Conejo with Carapulcra from Warmy: fried rabbit with a stew of dehydrated potatoes and varied meats
  • Lasagna from Fratello: the twist here is that the lasagna will be made with an anticuchera sauce and Andean cheese
  • Crispy Guinea Pig and a Pekan Broth based on mote (dried Andean corn)

040The roster of international and local chefs has been solidified, and initial transport worries caused by local construction projects have been solved. This means the only thing left if for you to purchase your ticket through teleticket booths in the Wong and Metro grocery stores. Pirwa Inclan B&B is located in Miraflores, Lima, so we’ll be close to the action and will be certain to attend!
