Learn about how artists interpret and demonstrate Peruvian culture by visiting the Gráfica Urbana Exhibit at Icpna (Jr. Cusco 446) in downtown Lima. The show will be open to the public from now until September 20th.
Tickets are already on sale for one of Lima’s biggest events of the year: the Mistura Food Festival. Each year at Mistura, foodies from around the world gather for good times and good food, sampling the best that the Peruvian Amazon, the Creole desert coast, and the Andes have to offer. Mistural 2015 is the 8th edition, and will take place from September 4th through September 13th. Once again, the fair will take place on the Costa Verde in Magdalena.
On August 30th, Peru celebrates a national holiday honoring St Rose, the Americas’ first saint. Even if you’re not Catholic, you’ll find plenty of entertainment- like most of the other religious festivals of Peru, the festivities include drinking, feasting, and dancing, with street vendors bustling about adding color and excitement to the proceedings. Thousands of celebrants will gather along the main streets of Lima to watch processions of the saint’s image accompanied by the flags of the countries of the Americas (a colorful reference to Pope Clement X christening St Rose the “primary saint of the New World.”)
The Lima Museum of Art (MALI) will open its doors for free for ten days, from Friday, July 24th through Sunday, August 2nd. It is one of the most important museums in Peru, presenting as it does 3,000 years of Peruvian history through a vast collection of more than 12,000 pieces of art. Local business Edelnor is sponsoring the event, which aims to bring the museums cultural value into the reach of everyone.
The 28th annual Gran Corso Wong, Great Wong Parade, will take place this Sunday, July 19th. The event has become a local tradition and one of the main events of Lima’s Fiestas Patrias (Independence Days) celebrations. Although the official dates of Fiestas Patrias aren’t until the 28th and 29th of this month, Lima will kick off the celebrations this weekend.
