Don’t Miss this Sunday’s Great Wong Parade & Outdoor Festival in Lima, Peru

Corso_Wong_Fiestas_Patrias_Lima_Peru_06The 28th annual Gran Corso Wong, Great Wong Parade, will take place this Sunday, July 19th. The event has become a local tradition and one of the main events of Lima’s Fiestas Patrias (Independence Days) celebrations. Although the official dates of Fiestas Patrias aren’t until the 28th and 29th of this month, Lima will kick off the celebrations this weekend.

The Miraflores District sponsors the parade, which covers the main streets of the district, gathering together around 100,000 people during its 5-hour duration.

Tens of thousands of spectators gather to ogle the fanciful floats manned by TV personalities and beauty queens, the folkloric dancers representing the different regions of the country, the musical bands, Chinese dragons and lions, and bobble-headed stilt-walkers.

The parade will begin this Sunday at 3pm, at the corner of Av. 28 de Julio and Vía Expresa. It will cross Av. Larco, the MirafloresFiestas_Patrias_Lima_12 Óvalo (also known as Kennedy Park), Av. Diagonal, and Bajada Balta. It will end at 7:30pm, but will be followed by an outdoor concert in Parque Central, complete with fireworks, a light show, and more.

Pirwa Inclan B&B, our hostel in Miraflores, Lima, is located just 04 blocks from Kennedy Park. Staff and guests alike are excited for the festivities, so if you’ll be in Lima, Peru this weekend, make sure to visit us and join in on the fun!
