Lima Celebrates its Founding Anniversary This Week

Lima Founding Anniversary ParadeOn January 18th, Lima will celebrate its 480th founding anniversary. The City of Kings always marks the event in style, with weeks of events. Unfortunately, the official program has yet to be announced, but we’ll be checking every day to get that information to our guests and readers as soon as possible.

One event is always a certainty, however- the concerts and shows in the Plaza Mayor on January 18th. You can watch as some of Peru’s most reknowned singers, musicians, dancers, and poets pay homage to the capital into the wee hours of the following day. The day starts with a large parade through the city’s central streets, continues with midday mass followed by a program of folk dances, ballet, creole music and more in the Plaza Mayor, and ends with the requisite fireworks.
