10 Days Free Entry + Events at the MALI Museum in Lima
The Lima Museum of Art (MALI) will open its doors for free for ten days, from Friday, July 24th through Sunday, August 2nd. It is one of the most important museums in Peru, presenting as it does 3,000 years of Peruvian history through a vast collection of more than 12,000 pieces of art. Local business Edelnor is sponsoring the event, which aims to bring the museums cultural value into the reach of everyone.
Visitors during those ten days will be able to enjoy free entry to the current temporary exhibits such as that of the Chavín Culture, which is a joint effort between Peru’s Ministry of Culture and the Swiss embassy, and the Marcel Odenbach exhibit, which is a retrospective of one of the most important German video-artists of the moment. There will also be guided visits, creative workshops, concerts, and movie functions and theatrical productions (some for children, some for adults). This is the sixth year that the museum will be offering these events. Last year, 35,000 visitors took advantage of a similar Independence month event at the museum.
You can visit the museum from 10am to 8pm on almost all days, although it will stay open two hours later on July 28th and 31st. The museum is located at Paseo Colón 125, in Exposition Park (Parque de la Exposición), which is located just a few blocks from the historical center of Lima. In addition to the Palacio Exposición, which houses the art museum, the park also contains: the Moorish Pavilion, Chinese Fountain, two open theaters, and a Japanese-inspired botanical garden. (Despite the international influences of these monuments, they are all date as far back as the beginning of the Republican period, shortly after Peruvian independence was achieved.)
